The Effects of Carl Rogers Empathic therapy on family counseling



Abstract

This research paper explores the therapist and Counselor Carl Rogers. The study focuses on the Effects of the Carl Roger's therapies on family counseling. Further, the results of Carl Roger's treatment are examined to know how beneficial it has been. Carl Rogers personified his ideas and theories by being a brilliant communicator and listener and an honest, admirable individual. For more than sixty years, Rogers offered a model of the person-centered idea he developed, representing his methods and theories through instruction and lectures. His obligation to the whole person has directed the application of psychology in the schools, the commerce and all throughout society. By developing, putting into practice, evaluating and educating a manner of counseling and psychotherapy which reaches to the line of human potential and individualism, he has made all psychotherapists reexamine their own theories and procedures in a different light. Leader in personality study, and respected in the psychology community, he has made a lasting impression on the psychology profession.



Summary

Family counseling is also called family therapy. It is a branch of psychotherapy which deals with families and couples in intimate relationships to develop and groom the relation. The intention of family counseling is to capture change in terms of the systems of communication among the family members. The approach of family counseling has been used in a variety of human dilemmas. There is no relationship in which the approach of counseling could not work effectively. However, Carl Rogers considers three main conditions that are important in the effective counseling, Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR), Empathy and Congruence. Empathic therapies offer an understanding, caring and strong attitude towards the emotional effort and struggle, personal growth and aspirations of the people. They encourage the person's natural human rights to liberty, life and the pursuit of happiness.

Further in the paper person-centered therapy is discussed,which assumes that we are the ultimate force and the sole masters of our own destiny, in other words all authority is from within. One of the first issues from a Christian perspective is the humanistic approach to psychotherapy which in the fullest sense of the word, humanity is at center. In person-centered therapy, one is ultimately responsible only to oneself. Personal wholeness assumes primacy; it becomes a moral imperative, often at the expense of a proper appreciation of our responsibilities to others.

Family treatment or their therapy is a helpful method to assist the family members, which are constantly experiencing difficulties, such as continous arguments, sentiments of emptiness or lonliness in the connection, strong sentiments of rage, need of concern in fondness or in a personal connection with each other.
