Carbon (Gas)

Carbon (Gas)

Introduction

Carbon is one of the most adaptable elements known to human beings and it can be observed from the fact that it is the main basis of life on the planet Earth. Carbon occurs combined with other elements like oxygen as carbon dioxide and with hydrogen in natural gas i.e. methane. Carbon also forms significant sources of fuel.

Carbon dioxide plays a significant role in the production of the greenhouse effect, which formulates the Earth a contented place to live. Carbon dioxide performs this action by inquisitiving with the revisit of power to space from the planet's ground by infrared radiation. Along with that the climate became never such warm as it has become in the previous twenty years. So, the production of carbon dioxide has vastly contributed to the social, economical and environmental issues such as global warming.

Discussion

Societal Issues

The content of carbon dioxide in the air continued steadily for about thousands of years before the industrial revolution. The natural carbon dioxide is not stationary as it is produced by the natural methods and is engrossed by others including the human beings. However when more carbon dioxide is released or produced from outside sources other than the natural carbon cycle like by burning the fossil fuels, then it affects the whole society of humans beings.

On average about 29 gigatons of the carbon dioxide are produced from external sources while 750 gigatons of carbon dioxide are produced by the natural carbon cycle per year. This increase in the carbon dioxide is added in the atmosphere as the oceans and land cannot absorb all of the extra carbon dioxide produced. The land and oceans can absorb up to 40 percent of the extra carbon dioxide produced or released. So the remaining carbon dioxide remains there in the atmosphere and as a negative outcome, the atmospheric carbon dioxide will be at its maximum level in the next fifteen to twenty million years.

A natural alteration of carbon dioxide is of 100ppm normally that takes about five thousand to twenty thousand years however the current boost of 100ppm has taken only 120 years. At present, the carbon dioxide is thirty percent elevated than it was about hundered and fifty years ago. Carbon dioxide was never high as it is in the present time for the last 400,000 years because of the drilling of polar ice in Antarctica. The emissions of the carbon dioxide by the human beings upset and disturb the natural equilibrium of the carbon cycle.

The carbon dioxide made by the human beings in the environment has augmented by a third since the start of the industrial period which has created an synthetic forcing of worldwide temperatures that are warming the earth. Carbon dioxide derived by the fossil fuel is a tiny element of the carbon cycle globally. However the cumulative carbon dioxide is a result of natural carbon exchange that cannot absorb the extra or additional carbon dioxide.

These societal issues have led the human beings to critically thing about the extra ...
