Canada is among the world's eleventh economy, associate with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Group of Eight (G8). It is known as one of the wealthiest economies of world. Canada is specialized in service industry which covers three quarters of people. The most significant sectors are oil and logging industries in main sector. The manufacturing sector includes aircraft and automobile industry which are also important for Canada's economy.

Canada is a mosaic of cultures. Here live around 32.7 million people (as of October 2006). Annual 200,000 immigrants enter the country, the world after the United States is the second largest number. Almost half of Canadians is not French or British descent. And the French and the British are about 500 years ago came as immigrants into the country. Multiculturalism in Canada is a political program that is both an opportunity and challenge. From 1830, the Canadian government began to resettle the Indians onto reservations - and started a few decades later, the attempt to integrate them forcibly, as by so-called Indian boarding schools. Only in the 1960s reinforced the resistance. In the 70s it was decided in Canada for the politically correct term “First Nations” (“First Peoples,” Indigenous Peoples). In 1982 formed a joint representation of the Indian peoples of Canada, the Assembly of First Nations to participate in a new Canadian constitution. According to the statistics of 2001, about 600,000 First Nation members are living today in Canada. They belong to 600 different groups, the ten different languages, and talk about another 50 different dialects. While some manage to become self-and land claims could be enforced, particularly the First Nations suffer from severe social problems of poverty and alcohol and drug dependency. The second group of indigenous people called Metis. They are the descendants of early settlers and fur traders who have made a connection with Indian women.
