What are the possible characteristics of Canadian families today? How have Canadian families changed, compared with the traditional Canadian families. What are the special problems of contemporary Canadian families?

Families are an important and essential part of everyone's life. There are certain characteristics that define the families today. Every country has its own set of values and culture that the families follow. In Canada, there are no set values and cultures that the families follow; however, the number of traditional families has decreased. The structure of the Canadian families of today is different than the traditional ones. The importance of values and culture in the modern families is not the same as the traditional ones. It is important for the people to understand the importance of families and their values in such a manner which will help them in leading a better life. According to the recent census of the country it has been seen that the number of families in the country has increased and so has the number of children. Lives today are very different as compared to the previous days.

It has been seen in the recent years that there is an increase in single parents raising a family. One out of four families is being raised by a single parent and there are many problems that these families face. Financial constraints are the major issues that such families face and in order to reduce these constraints it is essential that proper care is provided to them by the government. On the other hand, the norm of same sex marriages has also increased in the past few years (www.citynews.ca). Children raised in such an environment are quite different from the others and have to make sure that they cope with a different environment.

The traditional families and the families present in Canada today are very different. The first difference is that due to the increase in single parent families, women work to support their families. Due to this, children are not being given much time and attention. It is important for the children to get the right attention from their parents so that they can lead a life that is better and that will help them in building a better future. In addition to this, the 2011 census revealed that there are more people living alone in the country than married couples. According to statistics, there were more two parent families living in the country as of now. Today, most couples living together are not married, thus are not classified as families. The percentage of such couples has increased over time; however, they are still not classified as families as they are unmarried.
