ntroduction

The Buy American Act was passed in 1933, and the requirement that the U.S government purchase domestically made products rather than those by other nations. There are certain implications in the act that allow for foreign product to be bought if the domestic produce is not up to standard or are more expensive, and there are several different requirements and clauses within it. In this paper, I will be addressing the requirements of the Act and will be explaining my reasons for agreeing or disagreeing with them.

Discussion

The Buy American Act has been around a long time and has been incorporated into our society thoroughly .There are some exceptions to the Act that might arise in certain circumstances, that then allow for the qualification of exception from Buy American provisions. These range from non-availability of domestic produce, such as iron, steel or other manufactured goods that are not sufficiently produced in the U.S, or are not available in the quantities that are required. Another exception is unreasonably high costs on domestic produce. With the inclusion of iron, steel or other manufactured goods, the U.S is bound to increase the costs of products by up to 25% given the economic conditions of the nation. This is unreasonable to some but as per the global economic conditions, may seem more or less relevant to international and national markets.

The remaining exception is public interest. This is the application of Buy American Act's provision which might not be relevant or satisfactory to public interest, thus the common government faction would be to work around it.
