Introduction

Business operations and administration's core responsibility is to design and implement systematic strategies to achieve the goal of different departments in the organization. For achieving this goal, different services are provided to those departments so that they could achieve their given targets. The aim of effective business operation management is to improve competitiveness in terms of quality, flexibility, cost, innovation and service. Over the last few decades there have been several forces that have evolved the management of administrative and operational processes. In the healthcare activities, there are several issues that arise in operations management which include planning processes such as design of services, design of healthcare supply chain, facility planning and design, process selection and capacity management.

The hospital managers are completely aware of the need of utilizing their resources in the best manner in order to perform the operations management efficiently. Effective capacity management is another crucial issue that needs to be catered with immense responsibility and also providing the most appropriate care to patients in the most efficient time. Not handling the capacity management optimally in the healthcare has resulted in changes like cutting staff, downsizing bed and merging with hospitals. There is an immense need of implementing a model based analysis in order for hospitals to prevent these issues. On the other hand, patients demand improved service quality and to fulfill all the mentioned needs and demands proper operational strategies need to be implemented (Green2003).

Another functional service under the area of business operations is considering the location of facilities. The location of facilities in healthcare is of immense importance. Facilities that are not convenient or too far away for patients (in this case) become expensive for them to afford. If proper healthcare facilities are not deployed, it could also result in higher mortality rate. On the other hand, providing too much healthcare facilities considering the patients concerns would cause high capital costs to the hospitals. For serving the purpose, facility location modeling, in the context of operations management becomes even more critical to implement for the healthcare institutes (Daskin & Dean).

One more functional service provided by healthcare institutes is ambulance service.
