Business Information Systems and Impact on Mobile Technology

Introduction

It is estimated that there are approximately 1.5 billion mobiles used at present in this world. The quantity of these mobile phones is at least three times of the number of personal computers, it is a fact that the most sophisticated phone these days has the processing power equal to the personal computer of mid 1990's. These facts about hand held devices and the range of facilities offered by these devices will make it an alternate to personal computer in the time to come. It is quotes by Jeff Hawkins; the inventor of Palm Pilot that in recent years there will be approximately 1 to 2 billion people that will own a mobile but not a personal computer, a mobile phone will be a part of their digital life The executive vice president of Intel, Sean Maloney says that hundred and millions of people will not replace their entire personal computer for a little screen. Which is true to some extend as people cannot spend long hour and create big business project on mobile, but the debate has some objective, it is a clear indication that the mobile technology these days has become very sophisticated and powerful on Business Information Systems.

It was only than technology was considered as a hope for investors for such purposes there were developments in IT such as application service providers (ASPs), electronic data interchange (EDI) (Emmelhainz, M., 1993, n.d.), B2B electronic commerce (Phillips, C., and Meeker, M.,2000. n.d.), and online market places

Lately the main implication of business information system technology has been in the areas that are consumer oriented; the business sector awaits a boom of technology that would provide significant opportunities of growth and development. The main uses of technology has been applicable on wireless transfer of data and voice communication, it has replaced telephone lines rather than desktops. This information is very important, furthermore to realize the real requirements and opportunities that are presented by time for innovation related to mobile technology (Chapman, J., 2002, n.d.).
