Current State of Labor

Wal-Mart has been facing legal problems related to child labor issue. Focusing on its strategic plan Wal-Mart is still getting positive response from many labors who wants to work in wal mart. The U.S. retail chain Wal-Mart had announced plans to create over 22,000 jobs in the U.S. in the course of 2009 as a result of its expansion plans, which cover the opening or expansion of between 142 and 157 stores in fiscal year 2009/10. Wal-Mart planned to create over 1,000 jobs in several states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia. Hiring took place in different occupational categories, including store managers, pharmacists, human resource managers and cashiers. Through this we can see that current state of labor is flourishing ignoring the legal problem that Wal-Mart had faced (McCauley, 2006).

Recruiting Policies

Recruitment policies have undergone a major re-vamp with a large disk of local recruitment. Recruitment are sometimes conducted seasonally, such as during Christmas, when more staff is hired part-time to cope with the growing business. Applications can be completed online or by visiting a local shop and get an application form. After examining the application, the next step is an interview for a potential employee. This is followed by training and trial period in which they were set on their various skills. If they do well through these phases are then hired and become part of local family. The policy uses a filtering process that is useful not only identifies the top candidates for employment, but also at the same time creates a list of employees who may need additional tests to accurately predict their abilities.
