Business Ethics Reflection

Introduction

Ethics is defined as a moral issue that categorizes right from wrong. It is a behavioral code that is considered and adhered to by specific individual, profession or group. Business ethics are the conduct standards that an organization determines in its relationships and conduct with various stakeholders both inside and outside of the organization. It establishes a norm which would be adhered to by the people (Sims, R. R.1992).

Ethical dilemma in a business is a situation where a decision maker of an organization has a choice of two or more options that can have various effects on the competitiveness and profitability of an organization and the concerned stakeholders (CIMA, 2011).

Ethical Dilemma

Many a time individuals are faced with a situation where the personal ethics and interests of the organization are in collision. This situation faces further complexities, when the stance of both the concerned individual and the organization on the matter, cannot be labeled wrong (Jones, T. M., 1991). There is one such case study where a particular individual 'A' faced an ethical dilemma whilst serving in the Cosmos caterers organization. Cosmos is a catering business organization which specializes in organizing wedding and social events, by providing catering services. Mr. A was employed by Cosmos Inc as a waiter for serving tables on such events. He was also a devoutly religious man and adhered to his religious values devotedly. Cosmos once received an order for providing catering services in a marriage ceremony. They were also asked to set up a bar table at the wedding, where various varieties of alcoholic drinks were to be served.
