Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the role of business ethics in motivating and retaining employees of Starbucks in UK. The specific problem being addressed in this study is ethical behaviour and its consequences on job motivation and employee retention in Starbucks. A strong ethical work environment may produce employee motivation and employee retention. In order to assess the relationships between ethical work environment and employee motivation and retention, the researcher has incorporated quantitative methodology from a phenomenological and descriptive perspective. Choosing this quantitative approach gives the research an explanatory hypothesis in which to clarify how the variables interact. The results of the present study supports the conception that what employees perceive to be real is in fact a reality in which managers must contend. Having managers who lack ethical standards influences the performance of the organization because team member's sense of job motivation is often proportional to employee output.

This chapter of the research tends to develop an understanding and identify the reasons for conducting a research onto the identified topic. However, in the context of this paper, this chapter would inculcate the notions related to the role of business ethics in keeping staff motivation and talent retention. In order to understand the dynamics of the subject, this chapter would also inject different elements related to business ethics in the modern world.
