Introduction

I have selected Nike shoes as my product for an analysis, the reason behind the selection of this product is that, athletic footwear is responsible for 54% of Nike's total revenue, therefore making it Nike's largest source of income. Nike footwear is currently dominating its competition. A large reason is that Nike has so much variety in footwear, with a name that is well established. These footwear products can be designed for performance used in running, basketball, cross training, skateboarding, soccer, etc. Nike also produces a series of lifestyle sneakers for casual wear. Another big reason Nike is currently dominating the footwear industry are their endorsements. Having the biggest players in nearly all sports definitely is giving Nike an advantage.

Nike is known around the world for being one of the iconic brands. It was recently ranked as the world's 31st most valuable brand in terms of its brand value - USD10.8 billion - by the annual Business Week's global top 100 brand survey New from Nike the Slingshot Iron set is said to be aimed at those who are looking for a little more consistency off the fairway (Kristen 2005 Pp. 359-376).

Nike is a successful company that has been in business since 1972. Throughout the decades, Nike has built up its brand to one that is respected and sought after. Nike has grown its brand name through the acquisitions and partnerships of many other brands (Hurley, Umbro, Cole Haan, and Converse) to provide to its customer different products that suit every athletic need. In order for Nike to gain success in its growth, the company follows the four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. External and internal factors play unique roles into how the company carries out each of these functions. In contingency to the functions, factors such as globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics affect how the company manages the business (Goldman 1999 Pp. 196-208).

How the product sold through online environment

Marketing is the most important type of business activities. It does not really matter what kind of business or services the companies are advertising on the internet but the most important issue is the number of visitors. Marketing has become the most important part of social networks today because that is too hard to gather people on the internet to advertise some products for example. Knowledge and information can be shared through these social networks and that is what has made such a stiff competitive market place over there.

Social Networking of the Companies is being done based on just 3 factors:

1)Build their brand and promote their products or services.

2)Improve communications and collaboration.

3)Increase consumer engagement.
