Introduction

Despite the overall reductions in the casualties, significant traffic safety precedence is the drunk driving. To prevent the drivers that are drunk, an effort is required to get them off the roadways and to avert the future offending.

A clear characteristics and the understanding of the magnitude of the drunk driver is required in the United States. In addition to that, knowledge of the necessary strategies are needed, that are accessible, to combat the offending (Robertson, & Holmes, 2011, p. 1).

For this purpose a task force was introduced named as Driving-Under-the-Influence (DUI) task force. The DUI task forces are versatile and comprehensive alliances that encourage the participation from a cross section of the community or society representatives for the maximization of their effectiveness and achievement.

Discussion

Background

The DUI task force was initiated in the year 1983 so as to educate and instruct the people with the hazardous outcomes of drunken driving (NHTSA, 2011). Thousands of people, every year, across the country unnecessarily lose their lives in the vehicle accidents and crashes that include the damaged vehicles and drivers.

In the western United States, the drugs and alcohol continues to be believed in approximately 1 in 5 injuries, 1 in 10 crashes and about 40-50% of the traffic casualties each year. The cost of these fatalities is not only injury, disability, disfigurement or death only but includes various other factors. Various financial costs are also included like the hospital bills, car repairs, fines, bail fees, legal fees and waste of time (MDT, 2012, p. 1).

Goals of DUI Task Force

The DUI task forces are a significant and effective mechanism for the decrement and reduction of alcohol related injuries, crashes and deaths. The goals of the DUI task forces in the criminal justice system are as follows:
