Buddhism is a religion that originated in the Indian subcontinent and comprises of a wide range of beliefs, traditions and practices that are mainly based on the teachings given by Siddhartha Gautama, who is generally known as the Buddha. In Pali and Sanskrit, the term Buddha refers to the awakened one. The Buddha resided in the Indian subcontinent and gave teachings awakening in order to enlighten people.
