Summary of the book

This book Bringing Adam Home is a very serious story of six year old children Adam Walsh. This book discusses that how six year old Adam became a victim of a serial killer who escaped for almost more than 25 years (Standiford, 2008, p.28-35). Adam was abducted in 1981 from Sears when he was left by her mother Reve for a few minutes at an arcade stall. He was subsequently raped and murdered by a serial killer Otis Toole. This case was not dealt properly by the police department. Due to ineffective investigation methods, the case prolonged for more than 20 years which could easily be solved in 1983. It is also defined in this book that the detectives were only concerned about their reputation instead of solving they case and controlling the crimes.

This book deals with much of the evidence which was not utilized during the investigation. It also defines that how Otis Toole, the murderer came forward multiple times to confess the crime. He had with him even the photos which were never showed before which was a big evidence (Standiford, 2008, p.56-63). This book has presented the true crime story and defines why justice was delayed due to the investigation agencies. The book defines that the murderer of the Adam had very strange face and eyes. Similarly, he also had several learning disabilities and a low IQ level.

Les Standiford has written a very well researched book, it is not like a boring crime report. Although the readers come to know about the outcome of the entire investigation in the few pages but yet the book is so interesting no one can put down the book and would read it completely. Les Standiford has attributed the Detective Sgt. Joe Mathews for all the research but it cannot be denied that he has shared all the information in a very compelling style. This book entails a true crime story, remorseless killers and the anxious wait for justice.This book is the unflinching and grisly account of the murder. But it is much about the investigation than the grisly murders. The book also discusses the role of John Walshes', the father of Adam for making stronger and stricter laws for the protection and safety of the kids (Standiford, 2008, p.70-75). The book also discusses the role of Matthews' who after 25 years brought the murderer to book.

The book also deals with the concept that how after the murder of young Adam; the parents became worried about their children, and did not allow them much independence.The Parents of Adam carried on great work and advocated the transformation in the ability of law enforcement agencies to handle such case. Due to the activism of John Walsh congress passed the Missing children Act in 1982. Similarly, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was founded in 1984.
