Introduction

Brain injuries among teenagers and young children are not uncommon and in recent times brain injuries are frequently occurring. There are many causes of head injuries among adolescent especially due to car accidents, head injury during playing games, having a brawl with fellow students, friends or colleagues and etc. According to Youngbult and Brooten (2006) often head injuries can cause death or disability among the young children and those who survive head injuries often face issues like speech and gait problems, hearing or vision problems, memory loss and attention problems. Parents have a direct impact of the behaviour and mental disorders in their children. Head injuries can be life threating and this is the reason why they have huge psychological impact on the children, family members and especially on the parents. There is a very low rate of survival among the people who have head injuries. Accident either small or life threatening have a traumatic impact on the life, behaviour and confidence of a person and on all the people associated with the person who had suffered the injury. The research report will find out the impact on the parents of the teenager or adolescent who had suffered a life threatening injury and it will also provide a guidance for the parents to know about the necessary measures they need to take in order to overcome the trauma faced by their child at a very early age of his or her life.

Literature Review

According to Middleton (2001) nowadays head injuries are becoming common especially among teenagers. There are different causes of these injuries like stokes due to postnatal, infections, disturbance in the metabolism, due to treatment of the nervous system or treatment of alcohol, car accidents, fights, during playing field games and etc. It has been mentioned in her study that it at least take more than two years for a teenager to return towards development in his or her life. Many times it has been seen that severity of the injury depends on the rehabilitation of the adolescent because the more an injury is life threatening the harder it will get for the parents and the child to overcome the trauma.

A life threatening head injury will have an impact on the cognition, behaviour, emotion and personality of the child and parents as well. Parents will need to play a key role in making his child return to normal life in days, weeks, months or even years. Head injury among an adolescent member of the family will have direct impact on all the family members but parents will have a major impact. It cannot be ignored that following impact will happen on the parents due to a life threatening head injury of an adolescent.
