1. Of the four (4) commentaries that follow the case, select the one (1) that you believe to be the best solution to reporting the plan to address the problem and state why.
The one that I believe, out of the four commentaries, the best solution to cope with the problems confronted by Flayton Electronics is that of James E. Lee. I think his suggestion is better because it addresses all the key points and areas of a risk response plan. The suggestions made by Lee are of typical contingency planning; as per Heldman (2005), if a risk occurs, contingency planning is a form of acceptance; one is willing to acknowledge the repercussions and develop a strategy to cope with those repercussions. He is in support of working with urgency by handling the affected areas, as the more time it requires for the organization to do this will make them appear less reliable,
Lee also suggests that once the risk is identified, time plays an important factor in applying the response plan in order to reduce the damages. This should be by means of an immediate public disclosure once sufficient information has been collected; brand recovery should be started through public statements to help recover the business's image; to address clients concerns, toll-free hotlines should be set up; to the clients that still stay loyal to Flayton's, sales and discounts should be given to them as a form of loyalty incentives; launching an official advertising declaration to recognize the violation and to guarantee the community that the matter is being taken care of; lastly managing secondary risks that may have happened as a result of the situation i.e. weblogs, social networking, defective press reviews, etc.
2. Prepare a report that responds to each of the proposed actions of the commentary you have selected.
Dear Mr. Flayton,
The Security & Loss Prevention department has noticed that the customer's information security has been compromised, and some the clients credit card information has been affected. The secret services and Law Enforcement are also conscious of the scenario and have recommended us not to inform the public as yet until they have the case under control and arrest the felons.
Mr. James E. Lee, Senior VP of Public & Consumers Affairs, Choice Point, I sought his counsel on this matter, and he had a few suggestions which I believe you should consider.
1. Make an official public declaration once you have acquired adequate details to be able to assure the impacted parties, deal with their issues and also to let them know that we are working with the Police to identify the offender(s). As a media personality is also one of the victims so, I believe we should do this quickly. The more time we delay to notify the victims, we run the chance of them knowing about this from exterior resources, which will reduce our reliability. Postponing details could also outcome in more loss expenses to the records ...
