Thesis Statement

“The book presents a clear idea and critique about the two views on women in ministry”

Introduction

The most crucial and debatable topic in the Christian circle i.e. the role of women in ministry of the local church is highlighted and studied by a group of four authors. These authors are Professors and PHD teachers. The authors include Bloomberg; a PHD teacher who authored more than fifteen scholarly articles including women in ministry, Belleville another PHD who serves a major contribution in developing a clear understanding about the topic. Schreiner; again a PHD he has authored a number of articles including the one which is based up on women in the church. Keener a PHD, has also authored a book namely 'Paul, Women & Wives'. All these authors contribute a major role in defining and clarifying both the egalitarian positions.

The composition of a church constitutes of male and female members of the society. Therefore, various ministries of these churches can be filled by either males or a composition of both of the genders.

The book mainly focuses on the comparison and critique of both the theological position of the women in ministry. The first section of the book highlights the egalitarian view also known as 'biblical equality'. On the other hand, the second section focuses on complementarian view which highlights and talked about the equal rights of both the members of the society.

The book furnishes a clear idea about both the theological views in a manner that it highlights the strengths and weaknesses as well as, the complexities. The book addresses two broad categories: Life of Church and Bible Theology.

Summary of the Book

The book proposes the main idea about the egalitarian and complementarian position. This is the most controversial topic among the Christian school of thoughts. The major theme of the book depends upon four arguments ranging from forty to sixty pages each author. Exceptionally, Belleview proposes an argument of more than sixty pages. The book is composed of two major arguments firstly the egalitarian and secondly complementarian. The book emphasize on ministry roles in a formal way. The main theme of the book suggests that majorly there are only two views. On the other hand, James Beck and Bloomberg suggest that there are a number of deviations and within the view points. Similarly, some of the editors do not agree with the egalitarian viewpoint proposed by Belleville and Keener. The editors are on the view that the church has not arrived on a point where both the views are accepted in a manner they are presented.
