The role of prayer is considerably expanding. This is not just for work put in God in the world, but that we can discern its priorities and its development strategy for its work in this place. Traditionally, Southern Baptists have clearly emphasized the importance of prayer in support of the established work of missionaries and local Christians. This focus pray remains in force, it is absolutely necessary. But increasingly, we find God's purpose that the prayer and of course, strategic, offensive factor in opening doors and hearts are closed to the gospel.

In fact, a prayer, as a strategy is not a new concept. Clear that the word comes from God Himself: "Ask of me, and I will give you the inheritance of Nations" (Psalm 2:8). Jeremiah was quoted as saying: "Call to me and I will answer and show you great and mghty things that you do not know" (Jeremiah 33:3). Back in the 17 th chapter of Exodus, we find that Moses was using prayer as a strategy (see Ex. 17:9-13). In Acts 1:14 we find in the New Testament pattern: "They all joined together constantly in prayer," that Pentecost happened. According to the Bible, we see a direct connection between the prayers of God's people and the emergence of breakthroughs in the realization of their goals in the world.

History provides vivid examples of the primary role of prayer. In 1727, the German Moravian began a prayer meeting, which lasted 100 years. Revival swept their church, and they began to send out missionaries. They became prominent evangelical forces in the world that time in history.

In the early 1780's William Carey knelt in front of his free hand map of the world that he is addressing and his soul for the loss of the world. Strategic pray from his burdened heart starting point of the modern missionary movement.

In the United States mission, the movement is said to have begun in 1806 in a haystack. Some students of Williams College in western Massachusetts were in a downpour. They hid in a haystack, and convenient to use the time to pray for the lost world. These young people were on the mission fields, pouring out their lives for the gospel.

In all of our own history, we Southern Baptists clearly underlined the absolute necessity of prayer in support of missions and as a resource for mission. Many Southern Baptists are correct in our daily mission to pray. However, in the last decade we have become aware and burdened may have lost the people who live in places where the doors are tightly closed to the gospel and our traditional ways of doing mission. This has driven us to strive to understand, understand, and experience of prayer as a strategy in the opening of these closed doors, and as a strategy to bring staff to find ways to witness and ministry of these people.
