Introduction

Several armed and militant groups at Africa Congo earn almost thousands of dollars through the trade of conflict materials. These conflict materials usually include Coltan, Cassiterite, Wolframite, Gold and various others. Most of these conflict materials are used in electronic equipments especially in mobile phones. The point to remember in this regard is that this mining is illegal (Chachage, 1993). Militant groups and government troops fight in order to get hold of mine, these clashes and fights are followed by murdering and raping civilians in order to destroy the whole structure of the society (Pitts et al., 2008, 479). Furthermore, the locals re forced to take part in this illegal activity and profits achieved are further utilized in violence activities. Mobile companies play a major role in this regard by taking no action against utilizing such materials in their products. This essay focuses on the role of various mobile companies in this regard, Nokia is given special reference and other companies are compared relative to it (Georgina, 2011).

Mobile phones are a source of fashion and are replacing all other types of gadgets. Mobile phone trends changes every day, due to huge interest from its consumers, mobile phone industry has gained much interest and level of competition is also increased. Nokia is one of the most famous, reliable and most widely used mobile phone brands in this regard. Nokia may be considered as a market leader in this industry. As compared to other brands, Nokia mobile phones have several competitive advantages (Mishra & Datta, 2011, p. 109-116). The N series mobile phones more favoured by the mobile phone users than any other brand. Nokia phones are equipped with high level technologies that attract customers more than any other brand. The N98 is such a mobile phone that is having a 7.2 mega pixels camera (Ali, 2001). Moreover, various other mobile phone companies like LG, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson are working in order to launch similar product (Ware). The price of Nokia cell phones is much lesser than those of Sony Ericsson. Furthermore, the screen size of the Nokia mobile phones is much greater than those of other companies; this feature makes it more reliable and popular (Gikunda, 2007).
