Abstract
The study tries to explore the concept of blood diamond conflict in historical aspect. It aims to elaborate upon the history, background, the results and campaigns of the conflict diamonds. The research work applies the qualitative method and takes into account the utilization of an extensive amount of data for the preparation of the entire study. CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
The study at hand explores the much debated and useful concept of Blood Diamond Conflict. This research deals with background, uses and the application of the concept of blood diamond conflict.
Introduction
In the diamond field of the countries such as Zimbabwe and Marange, the severe violations of human rights take place which include rape, murder and forced labour. Human Rights Watch issued recent reports according to which the horrible conditions like these have been happening since decades and will continue to happen in future as well (Barnett, Nick Alice, 2005, pp. 145). In association with the diamond trading, the conflict diamond, also known as blood diamond or conflict diamond pertains to the diamond which is normally mined in the zone of war and is sold to earn money to finance riots and insurgencies. This money is also utilized to finance the war efforts of the invading army or the activities of warlords particularly in Africa. This is because Africa is a place where the two-third portion of the world's diamonds is extracted (Abdullah & Ibrahim, 1998, pp. 76).
In the African countries, the rebel groups have used blood diamonds in order to fuel the brutal wars. All these conflicts have resulted in more than 5 million deaths and millions have been disarticulated millions of people in Sierra Leone, Angola, Liberia, the DRC, and now in Ivory Coast. These blood diamonds, in turn, are normally sold to diamond dealers who give small investment to the rebellions for the purpose of buying arms (Adamson & Fiona, 2005, pp. 548). During the year 1998, a campaign was launched by Global Witness in order to expose the role of diamonds in funding conflicts.
