Blood Diamond

Introduction

Blood Diamond puts us into chaos and civil war in Sierra Leone that was wrapped in the 90s. A war that was funded almost entirely by the illegal diamond trade. Today, and since 2000, such funding would be theoretically impossible thanks to the Kimberley Process, the International Diamond Certification System, a system designed by the United Nations to prevent “conflict diamonds”, diamonds from countries war, entering the world market. The aim is to ensure that potential customers are not financing wars with his purchase or human rights abuses. Over seventy countries are part of the Kimberley Process, including Spain. Nevertheless, there are still many diamonds without control, “blood” (according to a UN report), from controlled by rebel groups in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana smuggled into zones. Sells Ivory Coast, Ghana and certifies illegally bought some unknowingly. After “Blood Diamond” diamonds may not see eye to eye 98% of the diamond market takes place between countries that are part of that plan. All exported diamonds are accompanied by a certificate guaranteeing that meets the international system. Maybe we can ask to take a look at that certificate before checking out the diamond. Blood no longer saw, the certificate itself.
