Restricting the black education was used as a method to suppress the black group of people and to curb the fear of slave rebellions, ever since the days of slavery. This denial just exaggerated Black people's desire for getting education. After liberation, black education was referred to poor funding segregated schools. (Garcia, 1989)

Since the colonial era till the Brown versus Board of Education, black American had to face countless number of legal and social restrictions in the field of education. Even though the slavery was abolished in 1865, segregation and the philosophy of being separate but equal continued to keep black people confined into an inferior system and insecure feeling. However, the North was supposed to be a freeman's region, the lowest mark of injustice was often displayed during the efforts being made at the incorporation of universities and schools. (William, 2002)

Beginning

Only some of the black of these colonies received any kind of education at all until the public schools were established during Modernization. It seems that without much debate or thought, public schools had segregation system from the beginning on common assumption that such type of a segregated arrangement would reduce the conflict.

Most of the blacks were thrilled to get free education of any kind when these public schools were a novelty. In addition they preferred having their own schools where the black kids would feel comfortable without being taunted with racial epithet and with no interference of white people at all. However these schools were still dependant on the mercy of State government controlled by white people for their funding.

Lot of white people did not want black to receive education because they feared that the black might challenge the white superiority and if they become educated they would not be satisfied with the jobs in fields or in domestic sector. Therefore, black schools received a lot less financial support than the white schools. Black schools had worst buildings, less well paid teachers and fewer books. These segregated and worn out schools disgraced the black ns with inferiority and had to endure the status of being second-class citizenship all their life. (Card, 1999)

First Private School in Massachusetts

The first private school for blacks was opened in 1800.Prince hall tried to move the administration to broaden public education to the black children but after failing in this, he started this school which then moved to African Meeting House which is located on Beacon Hill in 1808. Soon after two years, the district of school was supported with the local taxes grow in independence from the control of the government. (Bowles, 1996)

Late 1820's

By the late 1820's the access of the black people to religious and primary teachings spread significantly, yet they had to face firm obstructions to receive higher education. Black students were also not allowed to attend private academies and segregation was maintained in public schools so ...
