Biotechnology is a branch of technology that is based on practical application-oriented human needs in biology, essentially involves the manipulation of living cells for the production and improvement of products, such as food or medicine. It is used in various fields, including agriculture, pharmacology, and forestry, among others. Biotechnology applications are classified as: (Cooke, 2004)

Red: applications in medical procedures, antibiotics, vaccines and drugs in general

White: applications in industrial processes that aims to create more biodegradable materials in their production and have less waste, chemicals, biodegradable plastics, bio fuels.
