Obesity is one of the prevailing issues in the United States. Research investigations shows that the main reason of obesity is excessive eating of unhealthy food and insufficient physical activities. Both of these factors lead to obesity. Elevated blood pressure, diabetes as well as disorders of kidney and heart are the further consequences of obesity. Although the proper healthy diet and exercise are the measures to control or to prevent obesity, but recently a new hypothesis has generated. The researchers of Medical Research Institute at Sanford-Burnham proposed that there is a biological parameter that influences the obesity. The article “Good Fat and Bad Fat: The metabolic Fight in your Body” explains the mechanism of the fat regulating protein 'p62'. The presence of p62 in the fats tissue favors the good fat 'brown fat' in the body where as inhibit the 'white bad fat.' The investigators conducted the experiment on mice providing different conditions and evident the mechanism of the protein p62 in causing obesity.

The absence of the enzyme p62 is also the main cause of obesity. During investigations, it was discovered that the mice who did not contain the enzyme p62 specifically in their fats cells, had become overweight. The absence of enzyme in other organs of the body; such as heart, liver and central nervous system; had not effects to cause obesity. This enzyme is further being investigated by the researchers to discover its use in controlling obesity for some of the population although diet control and exercise are adequate for most of the people (Moscat, 2013).
