Introduction

Bend it like Beckham is the movie which shows some culture conflicts within the family. It is a comedy movie which mainly focuses on sports. Moreover, the movies Bend it like Beckham focuses on the Indian and British way of life and culture. The movie name refers to the famous football player of British David Beckham and his skill to bend the football (curriculumproject.org).

An Indian girl who is 18 years old is the main character of the movie. The name of the girl is Jess who was living in West London. The Indian girl Jess belongs to the conventional Sikh family and her parents wish that their daughter become a top solicitor. Parents of jess wanted to marry jess as soon as possible with a pleasant Indian boy. However, jess desired to play football with her friends instead of dolling up in clothes and make-up. Jess was extremely passionate for football and inspired by David Beckham (curriculumproject.org).

One day, the Indian girl jess was spotted by a British girl Jules who was the member of Hounslow Harriers. Jess was invited by Jules to join Hounslow Harriers which is the local football team for girls. Without the permission of parents, Jess agreed to join Hounslow Harries. Jess became close to the coach of the team Joe and became one of the team's best players. Joe became a coach because he quit playing football after getting injured (curriculumproject.org). Jess and Jules were in love with Joe secretly. The relationship between Joe and Jess started to grow as a result of which Jules started to become jealous. Parents of Jess realized that jess was lying to them and was playing football secretly. Her parents forced the Jess to quit the football team and discouraged the relationship with Joe as he was not an Indian boy. The final season was scheduled on the day of her sister's wedding (curriculumproject.org). On the day of her sister's wedding, Jess was very unhappy and disappointed. Father of Jess could not see her daughter in pain and allowed her to play. Due to the good performance of Jess, she was given a chance to play football on the Santa Clara University soccer team in the United States. Jess's father allowed her to play in America.

Families of Jules and Jess say goodbye at the airport. Jess decided to discuss her relationship with Joe at the time of Christmas i.e. after returning from America. In the end, it is seen that father of jess was teaching cricket to Joe and friendly relationship between Jess's father and Joe (curriculumproject.org).
