Bede as a Historian

Bede was a scholar, monk, professor, doctor of the church and was the first English historian who was best known for his vast ecclesiastical history knowledge of England, who later served as a major source for the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. History of Britain and Europe depict a significant impact through his work. Bede went to Wearmouth Jarrow at the age of seven years and became a part of St. Peter's Monastery, Bede joined the monastery in 685 A.D. where he spent the later years of his life. In 703 A.D. he wrote his first words. Many articles on the history of Bede on lives of saints and chronology including the allegorical interpretations of prose and verse were written in the book. Christ (AD and BC) was the birth date method which is common with the work of Bede. (Abels, 1983)

Bede is the author of scientific, historical and theological scholarly work, ranging from music and metric exegesis of scripture and commentary. Recent studies have shown the vital role that such concepts have played in highlighting the worldview of the first scholars of the Middle Ages. Modern historians have conducted numerous studies on the works of Bede. His life and work were recognized by a series of scientific conferences held each year in the St. Paul Jarrow since 1958. Many historians regard him saying that he occupies a special place having an equal status among the first historians of Christian Europe. While Bede is now mainly studied as a historian of his time, his biblical studies are also important as his hagiographical and historical works.
