Introduction

Beauty and the Beast is an animated Walt Disney Company film. It was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise. The film was essentially a revised work of Jeanne Marie Le Prince de Beaumont who is the writer of the original story. It was the first animated film to be nominated for an Oscar award since at that time, animated movies were not that famous. Beauty and the Beast is one of the most popular films of the Walt Disney.

Story

The movie entails a journey whereby a father ends up being in a magical castle inhabited by a beast. In order to save him, his youngest daughter offers to stay with the beast in exchange for the freedom of his father. In the palace, the Beast is faced with Bella and they begin to become friends gradually. Afterwards, Bella leaves the castle to visit her ill father with a promise to return (Mayer, 2002). She never came back and the promise was left unfilled; Beast was always waiting for her dying every moment in woes. Bella finds him and confesses her love while breaking the spell which held a prince in the form of beast.

The story starts with a rich merchant who lived in a city along with his three daughters. Two of the daughters were boastful and vain, the youngest of them was Bella, mainly for her beauteous looks and pure heart. All three girls could boast a large number of suitors, but the first two daughters wished to marry a nobleman and refused all young people without distinction (Howell, 2007). One fine day the merchant suddenly lost all his wealth and that moment he brought woes for the daughters. None of the suitors were seen approaching the girls, except that of Bella, who still continued to refuse them gently. The merchant, therefore, moved with her daughters in the countryside of the province, where they lived for some years.

Bella was a young dreamer who lived in a village with his father Maurice, an inventor whom many call a crazy old man. One day Maurice went up at an exhibition of inventors but he was lost along the way and ended up being imprisoned in a mysterious castle. Bella was worried and was looking for her father. She noticed that her fathers' horse returned without him. Bella was worried and she started looking for him and reached the castle. There she discovered that his master was a monstrous beast yet, she still exchanged herself with her father in order to save him from the beast (Easton, 1992).

In all these affairs, the love and affection was discovered between the beauty and the beast. After few months, Bella was seen in the magic mirror when the ill father begged the beast to let her go home (Disney, 2003).
