Introduction

One of the most significant characteristics of a successful organization is that, their purpose of existence is clear to every single employee working inside it, moreover, the adherence to the set core values and the vision of their distinct identities are also included in the list of those characteristics. Organizations, whether they are small or large, a business or a social organization, a university or a government organization requires resources from the environment to convert them into whatever goods or services, they provide to the environment at an acceptable price (Roberts, 2002, pp. 35-40).

With the passage of time a lot of things change including some environmental factors, technology, and consumer preferences, and since the traditional purpose of missions of an organizations may also become irrelevant due to internal changes in the organization, it is thus, very important to look for new purposes or mission statements rather than sticking to the one which was designed at the time of establishment of the firm.

It is because organizations relate their existence to specific purpose and that is satisfying the need of the society, they develop missions. Mission defines the role that the organization is or will be playing in the society, simultaneously, providing insiders and outsiders directions about what the firm stands for (Smith and Taylor, 2008, pp. 5-11).

Mission and values are converted into desired performance outcomes during the process of formulating objectives for the organization. Since objectives are stated in specific terms as quantitatively as possible, a great emphasis is on the measurement of the organization's performance towards the desired outcomes; therefore, objective formulation is a critical step for an organization. It has been observed that those organizations, whose managers set up objectives for every key area and then, starts vigorous actions to achieve the desired performance, usually outperform as compare to those organizations whose managers heavily rely on hopes and intentions for operating them (Padala and Suryanarayana, n.d.)
