Introduction

Autism is a disorder caused by the irregularities in the neural development of an individual. The disease causes the person to develop several cognitive and behavioral conditions; which have an impact on his social development. The lives of the individuals suffering from this disorder are greatly impacted, and they have to make several adjustments. In the historical perspective the individuals suffering from autism had to be subjected from various stereotypes and discriminatory behavior of the society. This phenomenon was generally caused by the lack of information regarding the disorder present in the overall society, and as a result the autistic individuals had to experience great challenges (Gillott et Al, 2001). However with the advances in the psychological findings and research activity, it has now been established that Autism is a medical condition like any other medical disorder. Hence it can also be treated like a medical disorder, and the autistic individuals can lead a relatively normal lifestyle.

On the global platform among a group of every 1000 individuals, about 1-2 individuals suffer from Autism. The Center of Disease Control & Prevention published a report in the year 2012, which stated the alarming figure that about 20 individuals suffer from the disease in a group of 1000 persons. The statistic has increase from about 11 people as per the findings in the year 2008. The occurrence of the diseases is more likely among the males as compared to the females. Statistics highlight that the boys are 4 times more likely to develop autism as compared to the girls. In the historical perspective the cases of autism have been increasing at a persistently increasing level since the 1980s.
