Topic Chosen for Attitude Survey

The topic chosen for the attitude survey is “”Abortion”. Abortion has been legalized in US in 1973. Post legalization, several issues were raised in the society regarding moral, ethical and religious significance of abortion. The research paper is analyzing the significance and extent of health related issues arising from abortion. The heath problems mentioned in the research paper are mainly the diseases, physical and mental health issues. Contrary to anti-abortion, groups in favor of abortion have also mentioned the problems and the reasons associated with the abortion which includes the situation of the woman, prior abuse, age and risk in delivering a baby. WHO (World Health Organization) has provided guidelines for safe and standardized abortion and avoiding several risks associated with it.

Purpose of the survey

The purpose of the survey is to evaluate the post-abortion consequences on the health of women. It also includes examination of any prior health related issues which might increase the chances of post-abortion issue

The Preliminary issues Regarding the Topic

After the legalization of abortion, there were several issues raised regarding the after health effects of abortion. Women are not aware of the post abortion effects. The women do not adopt proper measures while having sex which leads to un-wanted pregnancy. When women want to get rid of this unwanted pregnancy, they take the route of abortion. Abortion comes along with several health issues including physical and mental. It all depends upon the environment in which a woman lives. If proper awareness is created, women might not take the route of abortion and continue with the pregnancy. However there are some cases which are exceptions and in those case abortions become mandatory.

Women across the globe consider it as their right to perform abortion. They believe that they have a right to do anything to their bodies and their health. Women in US are addressing the issue which is much larger than abortion and include the sterilization of Latinos. Abortion should be given medical coverage because poor women, who want to abort the pregnancy, are deprived of resources in order to feed the coming child therefore they go for the abortion. If not given medical coverage women die of substandard methods of abortion (Smith, pp. 6-7)

Another reason for abortion is the situation and condition of woman who is pregnant. She might not have adequate resources, she may be of ill health, she doesn't want the child at that point in time or she might be subjected to sexual abuse and got pregnant (Drumm, pp. n.d.).

1 in 3 women are subjected to sexual abuse including rape and incest. Women who are forced to carry out unwanted pregnancy in the cases of sexual abuse end up in deserting the child. The child is then left in the hands of an orphanage. Women should have liberty to choose abortion because this unwanted pregnancy also leads to flashbacks and ill mental health.
