Attention Deficit Disorder

Specific Topic

Since I have to choose a topic of my interest in the area of learning disabilities, instructional strategies, curricular modifications or inclusion; therefore, I have chosen the topic of Attention Deficit Disorder for this particular paper.

Introduction

This paper intends to discuss attention deficit disorder. Attention Deficit Disorder is essentially a disorder in which the behavior of people usually children tends to differ from normal people due to their poor concentration capabilities, hyperactivity and difficulties in learning. Attention deficit disorder also comes within the range of learning disabilities because children are not able to concentrate on any one thing. Attention Deficit disorder is basically a syndrome normally being diagnosed in childhood. Under this deficit; children reveal a constant pattern of spontaneity along with extremely low attention spans. Hyperactivity also becomes one of the most common features of the children going through the attention deficit disorder. The disorder tends to impact the academic, social and even occupational performance of the people. The purpose of this paper is to make the topic of attention deficit disorder clear to the readers.

Significance of the Topic

I have chosen the topic of attention deficit disorder mainly because I believe that the disorder is essentially one of the most important disorders related to the learning disabilities of children. In today's modern world; the learning disabilities tend to impact the future of children immensely. Therefore; I believe any research in the domain of attention deficit disorder must positively provide underlying recommendations to improve the treatment of the disorder. Also, witnessing my own cousin going through the attention deficit disorder has made the area of learning quite important for me to understand and handle my cousin's situation properly.

Imagine all that is necessary in order for anyone to be able to speak correctly and understand what is spoken. Any breakdown in any part of the process and communication fails. Now consider how important communication is for learning. It might be said that communication is learning and certainly teaching. Without effective communication, learning cannot take place. Some students have significant problems in communication, whether in speech or language. The impact of communication disorders on a student's education can be devastating (PCESE, 2011).

Issues, Conflicts and Debates Found in the Literature

This paper requires me to select three articles related to the topic. Therefore, I have selected “A.D.H.D. Seen in 11% of U.S. Children as Diagnoses Rise” written by ALAN SCHWARZ and SARAH COHEN in 2013, “Stimulant Treatment in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Moderates Adolescent Academic Outcome” written by Robyn ...
