Introduction

Nursing is the noblest profession present on earth as it directly relates to the lives of individuals and improving the health of a patient. Medical diseases and illnesses are impulsive and unpredictable as they can develop at any stage of life and can be present in children since birth, asthma is an illness which develops in children at young ages or in some cases is developed since birth due to some genetic problem in the respiratory system of the child.

Asthma is one of the diseases which is not only treatable but can be rested with proper precautionary measures by the concerned patient and his or her care takers. Asthma not only expects the doctors to provide the patient with robust treatment but also expects the nurses to play a vital role in the care of the patient. Similarly, a certain share of responsibility is held upon the higher medical authorities to provide sufficient resources to cater the patients of asthma as it is a common illness amongst people specially children (Larsen, 1992).

Asthma amongst Children

The medical illness which affects the airways is known as asthma, small tubes which carry oxygen into the lungs and out of them are called bronchi. Children with sensitive airways are the patients of asthma and their airways are relatively more sensitive than normal children.

Anything which irritates the lungs is known as triggering material for the patients of asthma and when children come in contact with triggering material their airways become narrow. This narrowing of airways is caused because the lining is inflamed and the muscles which surround the airways tighten causing an increased production of phlegm or sticky mucus.
