Abstract

Asthma is considered as one of the most dangerous and chronic disease of lungs which may greatly affect the well-being of the patient. Timely and appropriate prognosis of asthma may help the patient in fighting against this chronic disease. The study incorporates all the signs and symptoms of asthma. Furthermore, the etiology, treatment and prognosis of asthma are also elaborated in the current study.

Introduction

Asthma is considered as the most chronic respiratory disease that targets the lungs of the patient which causes inflammation along the airways causing them to narrow down. Asthma may significantly influence the respiratory system of an individual and may lead him or her to severe consequences. Common symptoms of asthma may include difficulty in breathing or short breathiness, tightness in the chest, coughing and wheezing (Anonymous, 2010). According to the report of NIH, (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute), asthma is caused due to several factors including environmental and genetic factors. Furthermore, the diagnosis of the asthma is based on the spirometry, response to the therapy over the time and the severity of the symptoms (NIH, n.d.). Clinically, asthma is categorized according on the basis of the frequency and severity of the symptoms. The preceding study demonstrates the signs and symptoms of asthma. The study also demonstrates the causes, diagnosis and treatment of asthma (Jaggi, 2005).

Discussion

Asthma is referred as the long term chronic lung disease that narrows and inflames the airways. Asthma may cause coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and wheezing. It is often observed that the patients of the asthma often face the problem of coughing in the early morning or at night. Jaggi claims in his studies that all ages of people are affected by asthma and in most of the cases, asthma starts from early childhood. According to the recent survey, more than twenty five million people in the U.S. are affected by asthma, out of which approximately seven million of these individuals are children. The proceeding discussion demonstrates the symptoms, treatment strategies, causes and process of diagnosing asthma in the patients (Jaggi, 2005).

Signs and Symptoms of Asthma

It is often observed that, various signs and symptoms may occur in the patients of asthma when the airways are swollen, narrowed, flamed and filled with mucus. Common and the most usual symptoms of asthma may include chest tightness, pressure or pain, short breathiness, wheezing and coughing, specifically at the night time. According to the report of NIH, the symptoms of asthma are not same for every person or patient. Furthermore, the symptoms of asthma may vary from one episode of asthma to the next, being normal during the one episode of asthma and severe during the next (NIH, n.d.)
