Introduction

A condition in which a glut body fat has accumulated to the amount that it may results in an undesirable consequence on the health of an individual, in terms of leading to lessen the anticipation of life along with leading to an increase in various health problems is known as obesity. An individual is considered as obsessed when his or her body mass index (BMI), which is an indictor utilized to evaluate the body mass of a person by dividing the person's kilograms weight by the squares of person's height (in meters), goes beyond thirty kilograms per meter square. The following paper is an approach to explaining obesity and its increasing impact on the society.

Discussion

Causes

Obesity increases the chances of various deadly diseases in the life of an affected individual. Such diseases include various forms of cancers, diabetes, several sorts of heart diseases, sleep apnea and etc. Major causes behind the annoyance of obesity are; lack of physical activity in a person and it is most commonly caused by the practice of having an excessive food energy intake (Mikulak, 2013). However, genetic susceptibility, psychiatric illness, endocrine and various medications are also considered as key causes behind this problem.

The Scope of Obesity over the last three to four Decades

Obesity is a social problem and an issue, the reason behind this statement is that the definition of “social” or “society” revolves around the saying that social means it relates to interacting and mingling with people or each other in the surroundings. However, the people who are victim of obesity are commonly overweight and find it bit or too difficult to interact with others in the society, due to this hesitation they do not interact with people much. Moreover, the overweight people generally possess more health problem than the ones who are normal and they are also always in the need of medical attention (Mikulak, 2013). In an addition to it, obesity is generally falls in to the category of a crisis which deals with social health problem but it's the society's attitude that is making it more of social problem because in our society generally being thin is considered as beautiful and is also considered as the sign of attractiveness.

As far as the scope of this social issue is concern, then the Unites States department of health and human services as their most recent element of the steps inventiveness have established five groups of HHS, which are basically the health groups that addresses the areas advancing the central health and disease promotional activities and practices (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013). Those diseases include; obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart related issues lack of physical activity, smoking and etc.
