ENTRY 1 Psychology

Authoritarian

In this parenting style, children have to follow certain strict rules and regulations that parents establish for them and the failure in following such rules results in punishment. The authoritarian parents are never successful in explaining the reason behind these rules. Such children are obedient but lower happiness & self esteem (psychology.about.com).

Permissive

These parents are more lenient, and have lesser demands from their children. These parents do not even discipline their children or does it once in a blue moon. These parents are encouraging and more talkative with their children, more like a friend. These children perform poor in school (psychology.about.com).

Authoritative

These parents establish rules and regulations for their children and expect them to follow. These are however; more independent. They give response to their children and do listen to them as well. They are forgiving rather than punishing. These children are generally happy and successful (psychology.about.com).

Uninvolved parents

These parents are less demanding and believe on less communication. In some situations these parents often neglect or refuse the wants and needs of their children. These children results in lack of self control and are less capable then their friends (psychology.about.com).

A personality is built on temperament and we do not understand that this part is natural. When a child is born, his personality is already determined by the pre-birth events. Children have different styles of temperament which matches with their parents most of the time and affects others. If temperament is consistent it might make some difference in family and life experiences. Parents who are aware of their child's temperament and are familiar with the child's exceptional strengths will put in efforts to make their family life smoother.

Goals of Criminal Punishment

There are five goals of criminal punishment. These are listed as follows:

Deterrence is a tool used to stop others from criminal activities. While the prisoner learns the lesson for committing a crime and others are taught a lesson that justice system is a proper forum and they will be punished for their actions. It is not focused on the person who committed the crime but it aims to teach a lesson to others who are planning to commit a similar crime (www.writework.com).
