All organisms are composed of cells. Cells are produced by division of preexisting cells (in other words, through reproduction). Each cell contains genetic material that is transmitted during this process. All basic chemical and physiological functions, such as repair, growth, movement, immunity, communication, and digestion occur within the cell.
