Introduction

An Emergency room is such a department in a hospital where the availability of adequate staff and other facilities is a must. Generally, an emergency room is there to deal with emergency, serious cases which have to be dealt with efficiently. Hence, the facilities in the emergency room have to be adequate and appropriate.

As a chief operating officer, having received numerous complaints regarding the poor management of the Emergency room, I am responsible to look at the issues and rectify them. It is a 15 bed emergency room and there have been complaints regarding in adequate patient care, lack of staff, patients being sent away due to lack of space the overall poor management of the emergency room. These complaints suggest that there are serious issues with respect to the Emergency room and proper planning needs to be done in order to rectify these issues and regain the satisfaction of the consumers.

After analyzing the complains, it seems obvious that there is a lack of space in the emergency room. 15 beds are clearly not good enough and patients being sent away due to lack of capacity is clearly not a good sign for the hospital. Moreover, there seems to be a problem of lack of staff too as complained by the patients which have resulted in poor management of the Emergency room. In addition to that, there seems to be a massive problem regarding staff motivation which has resulted in inadequate patient care and lack of patient satisfaction. These are serious issues which have to be dealt with serious concern. Proper strategy has to be developed in order to get rid of these problems.

Firstly, I need to bring all the managers together and address all the issues in detail and address all the issues. I should listen to the views of the managers and look at what they have to say regarding the issue. The suggestions of all the managers should be taken in order to form an effective strategy. Firstly, I need to solve the issue of lack of space. For that, I need to sit with all the key figures in the organization and work on how to increase the space. All the important aspects should be discussed regarding how much space to we need and how much patients do we plan to accommodate at a time. The increased space should be backed up by qualified, adequate staff in such a way that there is always a staff member available to look at the staff. For that I have to work with Human Resource department to work on the number of staff required and how should they go about hiring them. Doing that will help to solve the issue of lack of space and staff. Moreover, the issue of lack of staff motivation has to be solved. I will have to sit with the managers and have a close look at the staff performance and the issues they are ...
