Part 1: Reflect upon the third class

Summary of Covered Topics

The topics that are covered in the class are about work related issues such as job stress, psychological disorders because of stress, impact on immunity system, workplace bullying and its impact. We studied about research questions such as how an individual's health is affected by psychosocial environment and what impact stressors have on an individual's immune system. We also studied about the psychopathology's effects on immune system and assessment of the perceived stresses. We also studied about what is job stress and some causes of job stress, the consequences of the job stress based on the two broad categories of functional and dysfunctional job stress and evaluation of the modifiers of the responses to stress and burnout.

It cannot be said that I learned everything without any comprehending issue because to acquire knowledge of any kind if not an easy task. Initially, I was unclear about the taught concepts but when I participated not only in listening but also in analyzing, my comprehension problem was resolved largely.

Process for Completing the Journal Critique

The article that I was to evaluate was “Effects of stress and psychological disorders on the immune system. I read the article nearly thrice. My first reading was to just gain an idea about the content of the article and its topic. However, when I read the article for second and third time, I was able to understand many points that I was unable to understand in the first reading. I used highlighter for highlighting those points that appeared crucial and significant. I also highlighted those points that were different to comprehend. I made notes in the margins regarding my understanding of the given points. All the highlighted points contained notes that I made for understanding and inclusion in writing.

Analyzing an article is not an easy task and I spend enough time on reading, comprehending and evaluating the given article. I spent three days in reading, comprehending and evaluating the work. After these phases, I started writing about the article that took another two and a half days, making a total of nearly six days for completing the whole assignment. The first journal critique I wrote contained many flaws and I was unable to understand the whole process of the assignment. I faced problems in composing a final worked out critique and when I finally wrote that, it appeared raw form of writing. I am still not an expert, but my comprehension and sequential processing is much better than the first attempt.

Reflection on Journal Keeping

A learning journal can be defined as an assemblage of notes, examination, contemplations and other related content that is developed with time and with uninterrupted study, knowledge acquisition and professional understanding (Moon, 2006).
