Introduction

Buffets Inc. is among the largest restaurant companies offering steak-buffets in USA. The company operations are spread across 35 states in USA, and comprise of operates 343 restaurants. Among these restaurants, 333 offer steak-buffets while 10 are Tahoe Joe's Famous Steakhouses. The company comprises of 18,000 employees and serves around 100 million customers a year. The company employed Anthony Wedo as the new CEO in December, 2012. Wedo believes and strives for reinventing the company's brands. He wants to unveil the realities, which exist at the employee level. He wants to gain a precise understanding of the restaurant affairs (Business Wire, 2013). Having this aim, Wedo went undercover in many of his company's Hometown Buffets, Ryan's restaurants located countrywide and in the Old Country Buffet. He did numerous jobs at the sites while working along with the company's servers, cashiers managers, grill cooks, and dishwashers. His experiences were unveiled in the episode of undercover boss aired on October 18, 2013 (PR Newswire, 2013)

Job analysis

After watching the episode of Undercover boss encompassing the experiences of Wedo, the following jobs have been selected for analysis.

Job 1: Cashier

Cashiers in a restaurant are responsible for looking after the collection from customers. They welcome the customers approaching the counter, and take their orders. They enter the customer details in the CRM and prepare invoices for the customers. They accept payments from customers in the form of cash, and other methods such as credit or debit cards. They are responsible for ensuring that all the billing is accurate. They are also responsible for collecting accurate amount of cash, and providing customers with the remaining balance. They are responsible for maintain cash in the drawer and ensuring g that the drawer is properly locked. They are responsible for handling the currency in the form of notes and coins. They are also responsible for handling customer queries, and helping the customers if a query is made directly to them.

Job 2: Dishwasher

Dishwashers in a restaurant are responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the washing area, and for washing the dishes used for cooking or for serving food to the customers. They handle the dishes including those made of steel or glass or other substances. They have to lift heavy dishes, as well. They operate the dish washing machines. They are also responsible for drying the dishes and placing them accurately in their respective shelves.

Comparison of the job positions

Analysis for the jobs of cashier and dishwasher clearly depict the following differences:

Cashier has to work at the front end and is responsible for interacting with the customers while dishwasher has to work back end and has to interact with the management

Cashier needs to be good at calculations and operating the computer system while dishwasher should be able to understand the standards for maintain a clean and healthy environment

Cashier should be mentally alert while dishwasher should b physically robust
