Social equality refers to the concept of society where everyone has an equal status in certain aspects, irrespective of their race, color and economic class. For example, the society which provides social equality to its residents would at last provide those equal benefits of security, freedom of speech, rights to have property and many more. This paper argues that it is not really possible to achieve complete social equality in one's lifetime. The paper also discusses the changes which must be made in US social structure in order to achieve complete social equality.
Is it Possible to Achieve Complete Social Equality?
To achieve social equality, the first requirement is not to have legally accepted social class or boundaries. Equal opportunities should e provided to everyone regardless of factors such as sex, sexual orientation, race, color, and social status. I feel that it is not possible for a person to achieve complete social equality in his lifetime, because in most of the place, people are discriminated, based on one factor or other. Usually, this discrimination is made on the basis of foreign policies, and economic class. For example, the migrated people are not treated in the same manner as the local people are.
Social equality requires that the social goods and burdens should be distributed identically in all the sectors of public. The social good include national income, health care facilities, education opportunities, and wealth. However, if we look around in the world, it seems possible to make everyone in the society socially equal. It is obvious that a person, who is earning well, is highly likely to educate his children in high profile institutes, and to provide his family with the best possible healthcare facilities.
