The purpose of this paper is to analyze the statement that “Some people think that firms should only be responsible for their shareholders and to no-one else, while others consider that business should behave ethically and make socially responsible decisions.” Though corporate social responsibility (CSR) is on the agenda of most major corporations, corporate executives still largely support the view that corporations should maximize the returns to their owners.
