Discussion
From the reflective log entries, three key issues have been identified. These include work motivation, contingency planning and the ability of tackling different individuals with varying personality styles. The selection of these key issues is stemmed from the observation that the writer gained from their own log entries. For example, from reflective log entry 1, the writer could have been more adamant in saying no to deploy one of the key technicians who was amongst one of the two exclusively trained to handle the equipment. The deployment of such a key team member and his subsequent late return back to the base caused great delays to the writer's own team, this lead to poor morale and higher stress amongst the remaining team members. The issue of contingency planning is proposed on grounds that provided that the writer and the supervisor of the other base would have brainstormed and looked for other key measures to resolve the issue would have helped them to reach a satisfactory result. As compromising of the technician by the team had greater repercussions as opposed to deploy him to repair a machine in other Front Operating Base (FOB).
The second issue felt is that of lack of contingency planning both on behalf of the writer being at the post that he was deployed at. As well as, on other higher military level, this resulted in understaffed teams who required to complete technical and complicated tasks or projects in short amount of time. This issue was observed through the reflective log entry 2, where the writer shared the task requirements of providing four to six aircraft for support operations during the deployment process. This had caused numerous problems as it took away the technical staff members from their primary and demanding roles to performing non-technical work. Besides this, the team was also understaffed which put further stress and burden on the team members. However, with inspiration the writer thought to discuss with their section superiors for hiring the non-technical personnel on the base to complete the task. Despite this, it mainly lays the responsibility with the management and the senior section of the base to foresee such shortfalls and plan out relevant contingency measures. Similarly, the third key issue identified includes about learning the skills for dealing with different individuals. This issue, albeit a personal one for the writer, is important as being in their current job role they ...
