ED1000: Achieving Greater Success in Higher Education in the Next Academic Year

Introduction

The purpose of this reflective paper is to highlight my views and aims with regards to acquiring higher education in the upcoming academic year. While the paper will mainly describe my attributes using passive voice in order to help me in staying aligned with the conventions that govern academic writing, there are sections in this paper where i have also used active voice for the purpose of referring to myself. Different sections of the paper discuss an assortment of topics that are categorized under different topics. These discussions iterate upon the aspirations of the author to acquire excellence and success in his academic pursuits in the upcoming year. In the beginning of the paper, Topic A carries out an extensive review of key terms that will frequently be used in the paper. This will be followed by Topic B which essentially examines the objectives of the writer in acquiring higher education. Topic C will then review past academic performance of the writer, also evaluating the poor grades obtained in the first module paper submission. Topic C will also explain how failing to achieve a passing grade for ED1000 has personally affected me. Lastly, Topic D is dedicated to exploring the chances of success through which I will be able to improve upon my previous performance as a writer after the submission of this paper. This section will help me to gain a better understanding of the techniques and tricks that are essential for the purpose of achieving greater success with set goals in the upcoming academic year.

Topic A: Definition of Key Terms

This section defines some of the important terms that form the essence of this paper. The following are some of the importance terms used frequently in this paper.

Success

The Online Merriam Webster Dictionary describes the term success as a successful results that is brought about through hard work and determination (Jackson, 2002, Pp. 63-67). However, it is a very complex task to define the word success since it can mean different things for different people. Moroever, success has different meanings for different purposes and, hence, it is difficult to provide a standard definition for it (Little, 2008, Pp. 24-27). For example, some of the measures that are commonly used to achieve success include social esteem, fortune, and fame. It is also true that fame, fortune and social esteem are the most likely outcomes of success.

Higher Education

It is difficult to find a standard definition for the term 'higher education'. Instead, this particular term is commonly used to describe education acquired after school including higher education and further education. According to international standards, higher education describes the process of acquiring an education degree at the university level by studying for a minimum of three years (Queensland, 1956, Pp. 68-70).
