Task 1

Part 1

In order to compile a table to represent residential care homes in terms of rating and cost, information was obtained from http://www.carehome.co.uk. Information was found on two specific locations: Kent and Sussex. A table was then organized by QCR rating and minimum weekly charges for single occupancy. Next, the mean, median, mode, and range were calculated for the weekly charges of the residential homes (the results are accurate to within 2 decimal points):

Kent

Mean = (275 + 300 + 500 + 450 + 325 + 500 + 450 + 275 + 700 + 530 + 795 + 525 + 450 + 375 + 350 + 400 + 345 + 360 + 420 + 395)/ 20

Mean = 8720/ 20

Mean = £436

Median = (400 + 420)/ 2 = 820/2 = 410

Mode = 450

Range = 795- 275 = 520

Reverse Calculation

Mean = (275 - 300 - 500 - 450 - 325 - 500 - 450 - 275 - 700 - 530 - 795 - 525 - 450 - 375 - 350 - 400 - 345 - 360 - 420 - 395) * 20

Mean = - 8720* 20

Mean = - £174400

Median = (400 - 420) * 2 = - 20 * 2 = - 40

Mode = 450

Range = 795 + 275 = 1070

Sussex

Mean = (450 + 450 + 650 + 725 + 450 + 525 + 300 + 200 + 325 + 595 + 500 + 350 + 750 + 390 + 950 + 425 + 425 + 850 + 350 + 700)/ 20

Mean = 10360/ 20

Mean = £518

Median = (450 + 450)/ 2 = 900/2 = 450

Mode = 450

Range = 950 - 200 = 750

Reverse Calculation

Mean = (450 - 450 - 650 - 725 - 450 - 525 - 300 - 200 - 325 - 595 - 500 - 350 - 750 - 390 - 950 - 425 - 425 - 850 - 350 - 700) * 20

Mean = - 10360* 20

Mean = - £207200

Median = (450 - 450) * 2 = 0 * 2 = 0

Mode = 450

Range = 950 + 200 = 1150

An analysis of residential places costs by each area shows that on average, it is less expensive for an individual to find residential care homes in Kent than in Sussex. Additionally, the calculations revealed that the range of different prices is greater in Sussex, providing potential customers with a larger choice of price. A closer look at the QCR ratings in each area additionally reveals that Sussex offers a greater number of facilities than Kent.
