Introduction

“Tuesdays with Morrie" is a novel written by Mitch Albom published in 1997 and “A Trip to Bountiful” is a play written by Horton Foote first time it was published in 1954. Both these literary texts were adopted for the TV drama and movie. Another common element in both these texts is that both of these texts were focused on the life of two older adults, Morrie from “Tuesdays with Morrie" and Ms.Watts from “A Trip to Bountiful". In Mitch Albolm's novel the story is told by a narrator who shared his experiences and life of college with his favorite professor, Morrie Schwartz (Albom, 2010). Narrator promised his teacher that he will always be in contact with him, but after his graduation he was busy in his life and forgot to fulfill his promise. Professor Morrie then diagnosed with ALS, a debilitating disease that made his body a mass of flesh, but his soul was perfectly awake. Morrie's wife was also a professor and she had to continue her job with taking care of her husband (Albom, 2010). The narrator Mitch Albolm became a journalist and once he watched his professor on television he went to him and then he took care of him and shared his childhood memories with him (Plummer & Fisher, 1998). This novel is mainly focused on the cultural trends in media and the way it affected the life of people. As compare to this novel, the play “A Trip to Bountiful" is also focused on the life of an old woman, Carrie Watts who wanted to return to her home where she spent her childhood, but her son and daughter in law tried to restrain her from going there, for her own protection and safety. They did not allow her to travel alone, and their busy life they did not have enough time to take here there. Mrs. Watts wanted to go there so she decided to travel alone and she boards a bus to get there (Foote, 1954). During her journey she met a young girl with whom she shared her childhood memories. Finally her son found her and took her back (Foote, 1954).
