Assignment 1

Q1: How do you see this objective-subjective dichotomy?

This dichotomy is best explained by physicist, Heisenberg (1958)

'Science no longer confronts nature as an objective observer but sees itself as an actor in this interplay between man and nature. The scientific method of analyzing, explaining and classifying has become conscious of its limitations, which arise out of the fact that by its intervention science alters and refashions the object of investigation' (p. 29). (Beveridge, 2006)

Maureen, (1998) says that it is a proven fact that, human imagination keeps on dragging its dimensions, and at the same time it is giving life to its subjective designs rather compromising with phenomenal objects, hence violating the rules of this vigorous scientific world. But still we humans are hardwired with our basic instinct of being objective, as the basis of exploration of our subjective world is objective scientific methods of proving and testing, strong reliance of scientific methods are on fundamentals of observation (sensory input), reproducibility (observing the same output from the same input repeatedly) and consensus (agreement by others on what is a correct observation). However, this argument is further supported by Albert Einstein,

"Our theories are inventions of our minds that we use for practical purposes, and that allow us to make comprehensible what is sensory given. Fundamentally, in theory building we invent, and from our inventions infer, and then test for accuracy, economy, logical coherence, and scope” (Einstein, 1993).

As a matter of fact, both views cannot be negated as one supports the other and challenges it after a century or decade, which gives birth to new inventions and researches. Imagination becomes reality, after being objective in predicting and analyzing its attributes and benefits. Since one dimension of imagination comes into reality, it gives birth to new wants and needs, which are subjective in nature and directs human efforts to another dream of increasing experientialists' horizon of life.

Q2: What do you think about philosophy? What is the philosophy as you see it now? How does it relate to the iPod (or House, South Park, bullshit,)?

Philosophy is the Investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality, knowledge, or values, based on logical reasoning or personal beliefs rather than empirical methods. However, we get our beliefs and moral values, not with logical reasoning, although they can be altered by one's willingness, one of the common means of delivering philosophy are conversation, literature and drama. Philosophy is a science which allows an individual to analyze his surroundings on his moral grounds and sometimes examining the foundations. (University of Merritt, N.D)

Conventionally philosophy always retaliate against basic believes, as it resolves the contradiction in appearance and existing state of truth.

As I see, Philosophy highlights the difference between what is moral and what is to be moral. It clarifies the contradiction between illusion and reality. However, reality has two meanings, to human beings from past centuries; one is feeling physically present objects, supporting materialist point of view, and second defined by mind state, ...
