Introduction

It has been argued by many people that assessment does not constitute a significant part of the educational programs or processes. However, studies have analyzed the essential part assessment plays in learning of students at any stage of their educational process. However, it is argued that assessment may pass or fail a student while it is considered to be a formative tool, whereby, the performance of the student is likely to be improved with the help of assessment tools.

Students are overly burdened with various examinations that are not capable enough to judge that students have capabilities or relevant competencies. For this purpose, traditional assessment tools have been used for scrutinizing largely because of their emphasis on recalling of information from textbooks and lecturer notes under the conditions of stress and anxiety. It has been agreed by various researchers that the undue pressure on students is the reason why educational institutes are not able to understand the true competencies of students.

Further, the link of assessment with the learning of the student is also lacking. Assessment tools should only help the examiners for reflecting the learning objectives of the curriculum, and nothing else. As a result, competencies must be defined in students in relation to knowledge, attitude, and skills consisting of clinical, technical and self-learning process. Judging the competency of students is only possible when the student is assessed on continuous bases with the assistance of various reliable and valid tools for examination.
