Understanding Research Methods

Introduction

A research is an effort to obtain facts and new knowledge on a certain topic. There are two fundamental types of research- basic and applied. These types differ in their socio-cultural orientations, in the form of organization and transmission of knowledge, and the type of characteristic interaction between researchers. Its aim is to broaden and deepen our knowledge of growing reality and know that while this is to build a scientific knowledge, its purpose will be to obtain increasing generalizations.

Basic research is conducted without any purpose of commercial usage. It is typically conducted for theoretical information about the phenomenon without an intention to use this information in its applied form. Basic research is aimed at enhancing the intellectual potential of society, by obtaining new knowledge; and its use in general education and training of almost all modern professions. Applied research is as its name indicates applied to specific areas. For example, there's chemistry on the one hand and its applications in the food and cosmetics. In basic research, there are more abstract: it does not seek to apply but to discover and understand (Rosenthal & Rubin, 1978, pp. 148-57). another group of scientists who cannot find a distinction between basic and applied research, the methodology is the same, but they differ is why research is conducted. They say there is no applied science, but science applications. In fact, any basic research can achieve the goal of an applied, is just a matter of time. It is also true that any investigation applied can achieve the goal of a basic.

The knowledge obtained in applied research is focused on the direct use in other areas (such as technology, economics, social sciences etc.). It is directed more specifically towards fulfilling a special objective, which forms the basis of this research.

The main purpose behind conducting a research is to learn about the universe. Human curiosity to explore new horizons and discover new knowledge compels him or her to study, explores, discover and innovate. This curiosity forms the underlying reason behind conducting a research. Once a person comes across a different subject area, his mind questions “how and why?” the learning and investigation of these questions with regards to a particular subject provides the basis for a research. Through a research, an individual carries out experiments, analyzes past researches, and goes through historic information and cross-study prospective subjects, to derive his own opinions and analyses about that particular topic or subject area.

This assignment analyzes two different articles of medicine about two distinctive topics as their theme. The main focus of the analysis will be on the data collection methods and findings obtained from the study. We will systematically mention the articles' information, their precise accounts (summaries) along with a detailed analysis, as to how the methodologies were incorporated and what quality if data collection was included in this ...
