The type of study

The article encompasses of experimental study. An experimental study is defined as “the study that attempts to determine whether a particular situation has an effect on the programmed participants”. The study encompasses of assessing the reaction of young females who are affected by the media, as well as, their pressure to get thin. The study assesses the causes and effects of such pressure on the young women. The study assesses the outcomes of such a pressure, with regard to the development of body dissatisfaction and negative effect (Park, 2005).

Overview of the study purpose

The study focuses upon the 'thin is in' propaganda induced by the media. Media puts the entire emphasis of beauty and worth for the female gender upon looking thin. The media does not acknowledge anything that including features, personality, body shape, but rather, the idealization of the thin body. The article assesses the effects of such hype created and retained by the media on a consistent basis. The whole hype created by media is attributed to create psychological distortion. The entire idea adversely affects the psychology of the females who are aging in their college years or beyond. The purpose of the study is to assess whether they actually affect the female gender, with respect to, the perception of self and society. The study comprises of targeting 120 females exposed to a situation programmed (Stice et al, 2002).

Independent/dependent variables

A research study encompasses of independent, as well as, dependent variable. The term independent variable is defined as “any variable that controls the outcome through controlling the dependent variable”.
