Introduction

Almost 4.7 million newborns, mothers and children pass away on annual basis in Africa's Sub-Saharan region. Out these around 265,000 mothers pass away because of childbirth and pregnancy related complications; babies numbering to around 1,208,000 don't survive the first month and approximately 3,192,000 children out of the remainder die before celebration their fifth year (Bryce and Requejo, 2010). Additionally approximately 880,000 children are still born in the region and are still out of the policy agenda (UNICEF, 2009).
